Workshop Description

Somatic Contact Improvisation is a dance space. A space to explore touch safely, and the sharing of weight as you move together. , intelligently and sensitively. It's a space of potential. A space of being and doing. A space to be fully human, playful, and joyous in your body. Why do I like teaching this practice? I love watching the transformation that people go through with this practice. People often arrive feeling a little unsure and nervous. After participation they leave relaxed, energised, with a sense of connection to self and others. This shift heartwarming and motivating. . Craniosacral principles are present in my teaching taking the Dance to new levels of body listening and awareness. Why is it important in the world? Contact Improvisation, originally conceived in the worlds of Contemporary Dance and Martial Arts often is bracketed by many as ‘too scary for me’. I've witnessed time and again its potential on a social level. CI creates pathways of togetherness which talking often struggles to achieve. It builds trust on an embodied level. It might seem a lofty goal, yet I believe that if more people danced together, they might find other ways of being together as well, and that, right now, seems super important. Many thanks go to Rachel Ruchstuhl-Mann. She has been my dance partner for many years and co-creator of much of this material. All levels of experience are welcome.
